The Prophet

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.—Malachi 4:5-6
What Is a Prophet?
According to the Scriptures, a prophet is a vessel chosen by God — divinely ordained — through whom God reveals His Word and His will to His people. The prophet does not speak his own thoughts; no, he speaks “Thus saith the Lord”, with divine authority. True prophets are vindicated by the fulfillment of their words (Deuteronomy 18:22), and their message always brings God’s people back to the covenant. A prophet is not merely a teacher; he is a seer (1 Samuel 9:9), a man who can see visions and receive direct revelation from the Spirit of God.
The Prophecy of Elijah’s Return
The coming of a prophet in the spirit and power of Elijah was clearly foretold in the Scriptures. As it is written in Malachi 4:5-6, “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers…” This prophecy looks beyond the first coming of Christ to a future fulfillment in the end time, just before the great and dreadful day of the Lord.
Jesus Himself confirmed that Elijah would come again to restore all things. In Matthew 17:11, He said, “Elijah truly shall first come, and restore all things.” Luke 1:17 also speaks of one who would come “in the spirit and power of Elias” to turn hearts and prepare a people for the Lord. This end-time Elijah ministry was to be a forerunning work, not bringing a new message, but calling the people of God back to the original apostolic faith, restoring what the worms have eaten through the ages, and preparing the Bride for the coming of the Bridegroom.
The Promised Prophet of Malachi 4
William Marrion Branham is the fulfillment of these end-time prophecies. His life and ministry were marked by supernatural vindication and a continual return to the Word. Just as Malachi 4:5–6 promised, his ministry turned the hearts of the children back to the apostolic fathers, restoring the original faith that was once delivered to the saints.
Coming in the spirit and power of Elijah (Luke 1:17), he foreran the Second Coming of Christ, fulfilling Matthew 17:11 by calling the Bride back to the pure, unadulterated Word. His ministry was also identified with Revelation 10:7, which speaks of the seventh angel through whose message “the mystery of God should be finished.” Through his sermons, the hidden mysteries of the Bible were opened, pointing the Bride back to her original position in Christ. Branham’s ministry was accompanied by the visible pillar of fire, signs, wonders, divine healing, discernment, and countless fulfilled prophecies. All bearing witness that this was not the work of man, but the vindicated ministry of God’s end-time prophet.
